I got sucked into the book, into Scarlet and Cinder’s adventures and the revelation of what linked both their stories together. A few chapters in and Scarlet wove the same spell on me (pardon the pun) that Cinder did.

The first few chapters focused on Scarlet and I got frustrated because I wanted to know what was going on with Cinder. I wasn’t enjoying it as much as I enjoyed Cinder. I am now a huge fan of the Lunar chronicles and can’t wait to read the third book Cress. Scarlet was descending toward the Alley behind the Rieux Tavern when her portscreen chimed from the passenger seat, followed by an automated voice: ‘Comm received for Mademoiselle Scarlet Benoit from the Toulouse Law Enforcement Department of Missing Persons’.

Together they must challenge the evil queen, who will stop at nothing to make Prince Kai her husband, her king, her prisoner… Meanwhile, in New Beijing, Cinder will become the Commonwealth’s most wanted fugitive – when she breaks out of prison to stay one step ahead of vicious Queen Levana.Īs Scarlet and Wolf expose one mystery, they encounter Cinder and a new one unravels. The only person Scarlet can turn to is Wolf, a street fighter she does not trust, but they are drawn to each other. It's a wonderful book but Cinder was a book that I couldn't put down from start to finish whereas Scarlet didn't give me that same feeling.

Overall, this isn't my favourite book in the series. Wolf's more reserved character contrasted with this in an interesting way, however I did find Wolf a little tedious at times. Scarlet especially was a character who appealed to me as a reader because of her strong personality and her determination to achieve her goals, saving her grandmother being one of them. The balance of focus on the two separate plot lines was something achieved really well in the book and the merging of the story-lines at the very end was done in a seamless way that, again, was highly effective.Ĭharacterwise, Scarlet and Wolf were both welcome additions to the established cast of characters. What I liked about this book is the way it managed to tell Scarlet's story in an in-depth manner while also continuing Cinder's story.
